Campos

Olivia told us about it. Ernest's ex colleague swears by it. The best coffee in Sydney.

Everytime we went pass this coffee joint, we were always disappointed cos it will always be closed. At one point in time, I even suspected it was closed down for good.

So when Ernest and I dropped by in Newtown on the sunny Saturday afternoon and saw that Campos was opened, we HAD to have a coffee break even though we had coffee for breakfast about 3 hours ago.

Campos was a small coffee joint with only 7 small round tables crowding close to each other. When we first entered Campos, the first thing I noticed was the crowd waiting for their coffee. There were equal number of people waiting for their coffee takeaways as well as people waiting for their coffee leisurely. The second thing I notice was the very strong aroma of coffee. It was as if Campos was bathed in coffee perfume and it perks me up immediately.

We bagged a table and ordered drinks. Ice coffee for Ernest and affogato for me. And the cam-whoring begins.

Moody black and white photos adorned the small walls

Fancy some home-made brownies and pastries?

I was astound to learn that the barristers will need to see the patterns on the dice to make the coffee. Quite cool eh?

One big ass coffee grinding machine taking up almost a quarter of the size of the coffee joint.

The crowd. They come and go, but the crowd will always be there.

I am quite surprised at the speed the waitresses and barristers work to move the crowds, the quality of the coffee was quite out of this world. And all the staff only serve with the biggest smiles and largest patience when you are undecided on what kind of coffee to order.

Ernest with his ice coffee. made with REAL coffee beans. not like the nonsense Maccas and it is well worth every penny of my $5.

Me with my affogato. Ugh....my oily face, messy hair.....lucky the star of this picture is the wicked looking affogato. The staff told me they actually freeze the glass with ice cream in it and serve hot freshly brewed double expresso on the ice cream immediately to customers. You can tell easily how good the coffee is, cos there is absolutely nothing but pure coffee exilir with yummy vanilla icecream.

What a way to spend the hot afternoon hiding in Campos (air conditioned!) with a good coffee and some Gordon Ramsay read?

Yeah, some of my Singaporean readers will be surprised. Not every shop in Sydney is airconditioned. Just yesterday, because of the heavy usage of electricity for air con, half of the city suffered power outage for half the day because Melbourne city cannot support the usage. It was just too hot in Melbourne. Latest gos is Roger Federer the yummy Swiss tennis player got caught in a lift when the power went out in Melbourne. Dunno whether to laugh or to feel sad for him.

A new way to take food pictures. I quite like this perspective. Heh. As you can see, we are about to finish our bitter coffee yummies. Maybe we should order more coffee...or maybe not. Won't be sleeping tonight if we do!
