Pls excuse me while I read

While I do a bit of packing for the long journey home to sunny Singapore, and touched on a little housework, I am indulging myself in these 2 delicious books which I picked up at a bargain bookstore a few weeks ago.

Tony Parson's My Favourite Wife and Sarah Dunant's In The Company of the Courtesan.

I did not realise that I have choosen a book from both genders. Very fair, I am, me thinks.

Tony Parson, as usual, is a fantastic author and he never ever failed to bring me into his fictional world. This time, he brought me to Shanghai where an expat chooses his mistress over his wife, but the ending is so unexpected and heartening. As I was reading through the book, I am continually surprised at his depth of knowledge of all things Chinese and China. This author is a blurdy Pom, al'righte?

I am still halfway through Sarah Dunant's book and I must say, her portrayal of 16th century Renaissance Italy is so lifelike, that I always feel that I have visited that country whenever I pick up the book. She writes through the eyes of the courtesan's dwarf servant, which is a remarkable feat, I feel. How do you write to portray a man, and a dwarf at that? And with names like Fiametta, Meragosa,
Lorenzina & Anfrosina, I am completely romanced.

So, please excuse me while I hibernate and read.
