Balek Kampong

I am so excited today, taking A380 for the first time back to Singapore. At the check-in counter, I was half-afraid that the ticket I have in my hand is a fake and somehow I cannot get on the flight today.

Packing light is the way to go as I am sure I will be coming back to Sydney with excess baggage

All checked in and ready to go. Because I have bought my tickets early, I have the privilege of choosing my own seat. Since it is my virgin A380 flight, a little bird told me to choose seat 80D, which I did.

Check out my seat space! I reckon it is rivaling to business class in normal aircrafts. Only drawback is, because I had so much space in front of my seat, people treated my row as the corridor. I had people peeping at me the entire flight when they used the 'corridor'.

For the uninformed, the A380 is the world's largest passenger aircraft, and most fuel efficient. SQ's A380 is designed to carry 471 passengers and I am one of them today.

The upper deck

I had quite an enjoyable flight. The A380 upper deck is so comfortable that when the aircraft was taking off and landing, I could hardly feel it. I suspect it might have got something to do with the upper deck's higher centre of gravity. If I have been seating downstairs, I might feel the taking off and landing more acutely than the upper deck.

With 7 hours to burn, I had to do some exploring. I can't of course visit the business class or the suites, but I had some fun at the staircase.

Only complaint I have is my in-flight entertainment went kaput on me 1 hour into the flight! Sianz! I was so into my Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian and then the screen froze, then the control froze as well. Had to reboot my in-flight entertainment system. Interesting to note that the OS is Red Hat.

Anyway, I rate the overall A380 experience as very good. As usual, the service is impeccable. We were constantly hydrated throughout the flight so that all passengers had to visit the loo frequently to encourage movement in our limbs. I had my Magnum and got to enjoy a very strong Singapore Sling as well.

Upon touch down, my parents brought me to a coffee shop in Yishun and I had my very first murtabak and beehoon goreng in slightly more than a year. I nearly teared at the sight of the food. Maybe it's the spice, but they are really delicious lah!

With a nice glass of iced Pokka jasmine green tea to wash down all these fiery food, I am very contented to be back home.
