Banquet fit for a queen

After the dramatic surprise 'party' in the office, while I was driving home, I was hoping Ernest did not planned another surprise dinner party at home. I just wanted to spend my birthday evening with him.

But I am really surprised when he came home with my present.
Presenting my very first leather Alannah Hill tote!

I am very pleased with the choice. Ever since we have been together, Ernest has been my fashion consultant. He is always the one when I am faced with too many choices at the shops and his choices always managed to win me compliments from fellow ladies.

He knows I love Alannah Hill and this bag is fit for a queen, ahem, which is me by the way.

Since it is my birthday, I get to choose what I want to eat tonight. I chose Chinese food.
Mind you, Chinese food in Sydney has many many variations. You must know that you got to choose between Xinjiang, Beijing, Hong Kong, Szechuan Chinese food, amongst many others.

I chose Szechuan as I had craving for the 'liang mian' monkeycrab has introduced to me a few months ago and I reckon it was the best cold dish ever invented. For the uninformed, it is sorta like grass-jelly like noodles smothered in specially concocted chilli paste and it is served cold so that when you eat it, you dun feel like you are poisoned by the spicyness of the chilli paste. After each serving of that powerful dish, I always keep a roll of toilet paper in the fridge for the day after just in case. *wink...for those who know what I mean.

Anyway, back to my birthday dinner, we went to this Little Swan steamboat restaurant in Ashfield. This place has been condemned by many people because their steamboat package is very expensive and not nice to eat. But they didn't know that this place serves up really good ala carte dishes. And they have liang mian!!! Everytime I go to Little Swan, I will only order ala carte dishes.

My host for tonight

This fish broiling in oil and chilli is to die for. You cannot taste the sauce unfortunately, because it is too oily, but the fish is so fresh, so fresh.

Long beans in XO sauce. Classic dish in Sydney for some reason I cannot fathom, but it is delicious all the same

This steamed chicken in 2 sauce is a delightfully interesting take on our common steamed chicken. The 2 accompanying sauces are ginger and sesame oil and their homemade chilli sauce. I asked them before if they sell the chilli sauce by the bottle as it was THAT good. Obviously they didn't think it is a good business opportunity because they said, no, they dun sell the sauce just like that. Hmph!

Liang Mian! Yum!

After the delicious dinner, we went to catch the newest movie 'Wanted'. We both want to learn how to curve the bullet and have tats like Angelina Jolie after the movie.

And throughout the day, I had SMS-es sent to me by well-wishers and friends and I am truly touched. One year older and I hope I will be one year wiser. Til next year then...
