Majulah Singapura!

I can't believe it is Singapore National Day again today! It seems like time fly so fast, that it was barely a year ago when Lisa scored us some free NDP free preview tickets and Michelle, Lisa, Ernest and I went to watch NDP at the National Stadium...was that 4 years ago already? I even remembered being kiasu as we should be, we ran around the stadium like headless chicken trying to cut the queue and enter the gates as quickly as possible so that we get good seats. Haha, it was fun then.

So what have we been up to in chilly Sydney for this glorious Singapore government PR-spinning day?

Well, you can take a Singaporean out of Singapore, but you sure can't take the Singaporean-ness out of a Singaporean.

As a contingent of Singaporeans in Sydney, we have decided to all wear red and white to office on Friday yesterday. Look! Aren't we cool? I reckon we should receive a prize from the Singaporean government for being so patriotic even though we are a few thousand kilometres away.

I think I should win the top prize for being so innovative in my dressing. Got Singapore flag somemore, dun play play ah!

We even looked up on youtube and found nostalgic Singapore songs which we have all learnt by heart when we were in Primary school. All the ang mohs were staring at us when we crowded round Candice's PC and singing along with the youtube videos with gusto. Check these out. Thanks Candice for the links.

Count on me Singapore!

We are Singapore. Go Abishigenaden!

One people, One nation, One Singapore. Huat together!

But our favourite is Hossan Leong's orginal rendition of We Live in Singapura:

At least we know how to laugh at ourselves.

And today, Ernest and I camped in front of the Mac and watch NDP parade live from ndp.com. Although the streaming sucks and we get pixelated blocks of images as I guess another million overseas Singaporeans must be also doing the same thing as well and stuffed up the bandwidth; I felt a rising lump in my throat when everyone start to sing the National Anthem. As the camera pans over the beautiful Marina South with the setting sun, I keep telling Ernest it is so beautiful and I am quietly reminded that everytime someone (usually ang moh) ask me if I am Chinese, I always, always reply very firmly that I am a Singaporean, not a Chinese. And how I believe in it.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Me with my Yeo's drink. Completely in Singapore mood
