when I am young that is.
I still remember very vividly that during every year's Chinese New Year, mum will whip up the best dessert for all the children to indulge in after a very heavy New Year's Eve dinner.
All the kids then will lined up with a cup and teaspoon in hand, very excited and watching my mum as she made the dessert live very much like Yan Can Cook So Can You.
Even though I am far from my mum, I decided to try my hand at it so that Ernest can also share my excitement for this dessert. Everyone can do this too and the best thing is, this recipe is so easy that you can swop with any kind of
I am making enough for 2 very hungry and sweet-toothed adults or 6 children.
Materials:
1 Can of Jackfruit, chilled
1 Can of Rambutans with Pineapple, chilled
3 Cans of A & W Rootbeer, chilled
1 big mixing bowl
Ice (optional)
Spoon or Ladle
Get the can opened by can opener. I think there are some brands of fruits in cans come in their own ring so you can pull the cover up easily but the ones we found in Sydney are all can-opener type.
Drain the sugared water off the cans. Into the mixing bowl goes the ice and the jackfuit. I pulled the jackfruits apart to make more pieces but it is up to you.
In goes the rambutans. I love this kind cos they are just simply bursting with pineapple in the middle of the rambutans.
This is the best part. I chose A & W Rootbeer as I heart this overly sweet soft drink since when I am a teen. I absolutely hate Coke but I just cannot resist A & W Rootbeer. Someone told me before rootbeer is just Coke plus more sugar, but I love it anyway.
However, you can choose your poison. My mum did the dessert with Fanta, 7-Up and 100-Plus before, but my fav will remain A & W Rootbeer.
Go ahead and pour it in.
Woah.....indeed the best dessert on Earth. No horse run. Seriously.
