I suddenly have this mid-day crisis. I HAVE NOT READ A PROPER BOOK FOR 6 MONTHS. I decided it would be a waste of energy to whine, so I would have to get a book soon. Maybe something philosophical. I hope all understands that knowledge is power and you will be a frog in the bottom of your own well if you do not know more stuff.

I have encountered an interesting discussion in a forum online as well on a global citizen versus an expatriate. What's the noticeable difference? One had noted that a global citizen would probably looks like this for example: a Korean who used to study in Canada, worked in countries like US, Brazil, China, Singapore, Japan, Scotland and India, has properties in Hawaii, Australia and Thailand, has a Turkish wife and is currently working in Malaysia. An expatriate would be someone who is working in a country outside his home country and still maintain links with the home country.

Some had said that a global citizen has no roots and would not be able to settle down in any country fully. These kind of people has no loyalty to any country and would terribly lonely when they are old and unable to fly because their friends are all over the world but nowhere near where they are.

Others argued that an expatriate would be exalted in the country they are in because they are employed into the country for their talents but will be despised by their home country people for not being up to date with the going-ons back home. It takes tremendous effort to keep in contact with families back in their home country and an expatriate will be forgotten when the company who employs them in the first place have no need for them anymore. Some expatriates are unable to integrate fully into the new country because of their inability to see the surroundings with an open mind and pride in their hearts. While some are too invloved in their new countries and refused to relocate back home when 'their time is up'.

For me, I would rather be a global citizen. I would rather people sees me as a fickle minded person who cannot settle down and have a proper career. I want to see the world that I have read so much about during my 23 years of life. I hope I am not too late in starting this campaign to see the world and be a global citizen. I started out as a Malaysian, relocated to Singapore, finished my tertiary education in Australia and now working in Singapore. I aim to go to Europe next year to start being a truly global citizen. With my darling of course.
